Mystery Photo IX - Farm Door

Hot on the heels of the revelation of the last Mystery Photo; uncovering the Festival balloon - and a new community garden - in Oxford Street, Newtown; comes this week's challenge.

Where, in very urban Newtown, is this distinctly rural looking door ?

  1. Even though DarkStarDeity identified the door in about 20 minutes; I've temporarily removed the answer to give others a chance at finding this door as I was hoping this was a little harder than past mystery photos !

  2. Am gonna go with a back lane in Erskineville, sort of behind the Imperial. Don't know the name of the lane though. Am I close?

  3. I think it might be part of the building that contains "original finish" in Wilson Street.

  4. @Danielle - back lane yes, Erko no !

@Anonymous - Not there either - though Original Finish is in a great building. Not sure why they needed to re-do their doors as they did recently; they look too new now.

  5. OK - then maybe its one of those lanes between Denison and Chelmsford or Australia Street? And it's one of the old dunnys.

  6. Closer - but still wrong on both counts !

  7. Really? still unsolved? It's The Shack, just behind Citrus off Church street. Figured someone else would have it by now!

  9. @smacky-wolf: Yeah, I'm surprised no-one else picked it up either. I realised that I'd wrongly called it The Shed in my original post, I was waiting for the revelation to correct myself.

That building has the weirdest interior aspects too - not one of the corners or angles is square, and the floor slopes in at least three different directions (at least in the bit I've seen). It's like the room from the HP Lovecraft story Dreams In The Witch-House.

  10. Thanks guys. Where does the name 'The Shack' come from ? Is it open to the public at all ? I just saw it from the lane way while snooping around !

  11. No, it's private property. Well, actually, private properties - it extends over at least 2, maybe 3, properties, and has been divided accordingly. People live in at least one section of it. The name The Shack was coined by one of the previous residents, and stuck.

  12. I was living in that shed when you took this photo.
I remember it being a fun and interesting time while also being very bad for many reasons.
That shed was the only good part of that house.
